Dictionary of carved decor: meaning of terms. And 3D models for CNC machines.
Our website presents a wide range of models of carved decor for production on CNC machines.
Many carved elements were transferred into interiors from architecture. And that, in turn, was formed back in the times of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. This is largely due to the sometimes complex and incomprehensible names of decorative elements.
Moreover, all of the types of decor listed below are popular in our time. They have passed through the centuries, changed more than once, but even now they are often used to decorate doors, furniture, walls and other household items. Especially when decorating interiors in classic interior styles.
Today we decided to compile a small dictionary where we will talk about what certain names of decorative elements mean. And we will give examples of models.
Acanthus:
Acanthus is a popular decorative element. It is a tropical plant native to the Mediterranean. Acanthus, as an architectural element, appeared during the times of ancient Greek and Roman cultures.
But over time it was repeatedly used in many other eras. The decor in the form of an acanthus leaf changed a little, becoming either smoother and rounder, or sharper and more pointed, depending on the mood of a particular time. But it remained popular at all times.
It is used both as an ornament and as an independent element.
You can view 3D models of acanthus by following the link.
Balusters:
Balusters are not so much decor as they are an important structural component of almost any staircase. These are small shaped posts that support the railings. They are made using a CNC machine and can have a variety of interesting carved shapes.
You can view the full range here.
Garland or festoon.
A garland (or festoon) is a decor in the form of intertwined leaves, flowers, fruits, decorated with ribbons or bows. 3D models of garlands are presented in this section.
We have both more laconic and strict options, as well as luxurious ones with additional elements.
Garlands are used to decorate doors, large vases, arches and much more.
They add solemnity and elegance. Used in various classic interiors.
Capital:
A capital is the upper part, the “cap” for a column or pilaster. Usually has an original carved design. They differ from each other in style and decor.
They can be cut volumetric, or they can create carvings on a plane (for pilasters).
Console or bracket:
In general, a console or bracket in architecture is a supporting element, protruding, often decorated. It can serve to support balconies.
On our website we present 3D models of brackets that serve as fastenings for shelves.
And separately, console models are most often a console table. Sometimes with legs, sometimes without them. In any case, this table is different in that it is mounted on the wall. You can view it here.
Pilaster:
It resembles a column, has a base (base) and a capital (top). But it is a flat decorative element. A vertical projection from the wall. The carved decor protrudes slightly above the plane.
Popular decor. Used to decorate furniture, walls, fireplace portals, etc.
See all 3D models of pilasters at the link.
Socket (rosette):
A circle or square enclosing the petals of a flower, leaves, identical in shape, arranged symmetrically.
There are models of ceiling rosettes, differing in that they are used to decorate the ceiling and are often installed under a chandelier.
There are models of rosettes that are a separate decorative element.
Sometimes they are used separately, sometimes they form an ornament.
Tsarga:
Drawbars are fastenings that connect furniture legs together. For example, chair legs, table legs. Often decorated with decor. And therefore it gives the product a particularly elegant and attractive appearance.
We present 3D models of drawers in this section.
A few more important words:
- Base – the lower part of the column, its base.
- A balustrade is a row of balusters connected at the top by a railing or beam.
- Bas-relief is a decor in which the image protrudes above the background plane. Bas-reliefs are often used to decorate walls, vaults, and capitals. We present them mainly in the sections carved panels
- Vignette is usually a word used to describe a bunch of grapes with leaves. This element is found in many of our 3D models, especially those related to the Baroque style.
- High relief is practically a sculpture; the image protrudes above the background plane by more than half of its volume. You can cut sculptures and semi-sculptures on a CNC machine if you go to our sections with 3D animal models, character models and others.
- Vertical grooves on a column post are called flutes (from us you can download models of columns and pilasters with flutes).
- A caryatid is a statue of a woman in ancient Greek clothing, replacing a column or pilaster. Such sculpture options can be found in the figurines section.
- Ornament – repeating decor.
- Palmetta is a fan-shaped leaf. Popular element. Can be seen on many 3D models.

We will produce 3D models of any complexity.
We have a wide range of 3D models for CNC machines. You can purchase any model from our website, use it to set a control program for the machine, and soon receive ready-made decor.
We can modify any model at your request (add or remove something), or we can make a custom model based on your photo, sketch, or description.
Convenient stl format will allow you to edit models in Artcam, 3dMax and others. And also use each model repeatedly, both for making individual overlays and as beautiful decorative details cut directly onto the product.
