Kazanskaya:
A widely revered image in the Russian Orthodox Church. It was first found in Kazan. There is a legend associated with the image that the icon was purchased in Constantinople, but was later lost and found only 140 years later. Moreover, the image appeared after the fire that destroyed Kazan. A 10-year-old girl saw him in a dream and found him under a destroyed house. The same icon was stolen and destroyed in 1904.
There are Kazan cathedrals in Moscow and St. Petersburg, and in them, as well as throughout the country, there are copies.
Our Lady of Kazan is known as the Patron Saint of Russia. This is due to the fact that prayers were repeatedly offered in front of the image before the battles that Russia had to endure.
On the icon, the Mother of God is depicted from the full face, up to the shoulders, she bowed her head towards the infant Christ. The baby is depicted as a youth. His hand is raised in a gesture of blessing.
Seven-arrows:
The seven-arrow icon differs significantly from all other images of the Mother of God. The Mother of God is depicted here without a baby. Waist-length look. The Mother of God holds 7 arrows in her hands, which seem to pierce her heart, but she holds them with her hands.
Interestingly, the icon was found in the vicinity of Vologda. The image was painted on the back of the board, on which everyone walked, not knowing that there was an icon under their feet. A peasant found it in the bell tower of a local church.
They prayed before the image in Vologda during the rampage of cholera from the beginning of the 19th century, and the Mother of God helped to escape from the disease.
The icon has ancient origins.
The images “Softening Evil Hearts” and “Simeon’s Prophecy” have similar iconography. All icons are considered varieties of the same iconographic type.
In front of the icon they pray for deliverance from hard-heartedness.
Vladimirskaya:
The Mother of God of Vladimir belongs to another type of icon: “Tenderness”.
All icons of this type depict a baby pressing its cheek to its mother.
It is the Vladimir Icon (original) that is kept in the church museum at the State Tretyakov Gallery, as one of the earliest surviving and most revered icons of the Russian Orthodox Church.
In the 15th century, the icon was painted by the Evangelist Luke, it came to Constantinople, and then was sent as a gift to the prince of Kyiv. Later the icon came to Vladimir, where it received its name - Vladimir.
Andrei Bogolyubsky took her with him on military campaigns.
Later the image was moved to Moscow to protect the fortress from conquest. It is known that Ivan the Terrible himself prayed opposite this icon before his military campaigns.
Copies were often written from the Vladimir Icon.
She is highly valued and revered by the Orthodox.
GodMother ("Pantanasse"):
The GodMother icon is distinguished by the fact that the Mother of God is depicted here seated on a throne. The baby is kneeling on the left. The GodMother is surrounded by archangels.
This iconographic type appeared in ancient times. Back in the 12th and 13th centuries, monasteries named after the Pantanassa icon were built.
There are many lists of the icon of the GodMother, some of which are considered miraculous.
It is in front of this image that people with incurable diseases, including cancer, pray for healing.
Inexhaustible Chalice
Before this image, the Mother of God is asked to get rid of bad habits, drunkenness, drug addiction. Legend has it that one soldier drank constantly and could not get rid of drunkenness; even this man’s legs were paralyzed. But one day he had a dream in which the elder ordered to serve a prayer service before the icon of the Mother of God in Serpukhov. The dream began to repeat itself. And the old soldier went to Serpukhov. After performing the prayer service, he was healed and completely got rid of his addiction.
Iconographically, the icon belongs to the type of the Virgin Mary Oranta. The Child Christ is depicted here standing in a cup, symbolizing the cup of communion.
Joy and consolation:
Interesting image. In the icon, the baby extends his hand to the Mother of God. And she touches her with her lips. This image is called the Eucharistic.
They say that in this icon the Mother of God asks Christ not to punish people, but to spare them. She seems to be holding his hand.
There is a holiday named after this icon. Lots of miraculous lists.
Kasperovskaya:
Kasperovskaya Bogoromother is another widely revered icon in Rus'. Interestingly, it was not painted on a board, like all the others, but on a canvas pasted onto the board.
The iconographic type is the same as that of the Tenderness icon. Here the baby and the Mother of God are pressed against each other cheek to cheek. The icon was brought by a Serb at the end of the 16th century and the image was passed down from generation to generation. Then the icon came to the landowner Kasperova. One day the face was miraculously restored, although it was already old and dilapidated. Soon healings began to occur, and news about the icon quickly spread throughout the area. The image was transferred to the temple.
