CNC engraving: features, models

Among all types of processing, engraving occupies a special place. This method allows you to obtain very precise, small images and clear patterns on materials with varying degrees of hardness.

In this article we will tell you how engraving differs, what can be made with it, and what is important to know and be able to do.

You can buy ready-made models or order the development of models for CNC engraving machines on our website. We have a wide range of models in our catalogue.

About CNC engraving:

Engraving, unlike other methods of processing products, does not cut off a large amount of material, does not cut through, but works on the surface, going deep to a small depth. Allows you to get shallow relief.

However, in some cases, engraving is preferable, for example, when working with small items. Engraving provides higher precision.

Benefits of engraving:

  • High detail, clarity of drawing,
  • Working with the smallest details
  • Minimum percentage of defects,
  • Fast completion of work,
  • Possibility of mass production according to one program,
  • Fast and contactless work with a wide variety of materials.
  • Most often, engravers are used when working with hard materials (stone, metal), less often - with wood, plastic.

In addition to engraving (applying a picture or inscription, a pattern), the engraver can perform cutting, grinding, and drilling. In this case, it is enough to change the nozzles.

What are they making?

Typically, engraving is used to produce:

  • Jewelry,
  • Medals and coins,
  • Souvenir products,
  • Advertising signs, plaques, wardrobe tags,
  • Interior decor,
  • Printed circuit boards,
  • Serial furniture
  • And so on.

Milling method:

Engraving can be milling or laser. Each case will have its own characteristics and its own devices.

Milling engraving is performed on milling machines. The main cutting tool here is a high-precision cutter, which can be called an engraver. These are small cutting tools that have a straight or conical shape, often with a cylindrical shank, and a flat or spherical point.

The final result can be influenced not only by the shape of the engraver, but also by the angle of its sharpening. The necessary parameters are selected based on the type of pattern and material.

Single-pass cutters-engravers are immersed to depth, so they are not equipped with spiral grooves for chip removal. But when processing metals and alloys, a two-flute cutter with grooves may be needed.

Straight cutters-engravers are used only for certain types of plastic.

Conical type engravers are almost universal. However, the sharpening angle in this case is selected depending on the depth of processing, the area of the surface being processed, and the need to increase the width.

Laser engraving:

In this case, the cutting tool is a light flux capable of heating the material to the melting point.

There are various laser engravers, differing in many respects: size, power, processing speed, and so on.

Modern laser machines have wide engraving capabilities. And they are what we often talk about when we talk about engraving. The laser can perform work on both flat and textured surfaces. It can create very precise decoration and is suitable for a wide variety of products that require jewelry precision.

Laser engravers differ from each other into solid-state (using various crystals), gas (where the working tools are a mixture of gases and electric discharge) and fiber (using optical fiber).

Solid state are the most functional and durable, suitable for processing a variety of metals, silicon, ceramics and precious stones, but not at all used for glass or wood.

The choice of machine will depend on a number of parameters: what is planned to be processed, what materials, in what quantities, what nature of the work is planned, how often engraving will be needed.

3D models:

On our website you can buy 3D models to create an exclusive engraving.

You may be interested in jewelry models, ring models, insect models, coin models, coats of arms models, medal models, baguette models, decor. And many other sections.
