As always hand work has a high value in classical furniture manufacturing, but even here it is gradually displaced by new techniques. What has changed in technique of creation of classical wood furniture with the emergence of computer programs of three-dimensional projection and numerical control machines? To answer this question, let's compare the techniques applied before and the techniques applied now. As an example let's take a bed in classical style with a rich carved back and legs. Suppose we are going to start batch manufacturing of such bed.
How did it occur before? It is obvious, that everything began with the sketch of the bed. Furniture artist or designer drew the sketch of the bed. Then under this sketch the masters - cabinetmakers, joiners, carpenter and carvers – made the prototype model of the bed with the help of hand tools and simple machine tools. The work took a lot of time, because woodcarving is very effortful, laborious and long-run process. And a team of carvers needed several days to make such bed's back and legs. After that there was an examination of the example and necessary changes were made to the carving, because it is very difficult to make an ideal carving under the sketch from the first time. Assemblage, sets of details of the bed, their strength property and manufacturability were examined too. Manufacturability means the most convenient way of manufacturing demanding the least expenditures of work, time, materials etc. So, after all these corrective actions there appeared the exemplar meeting all demands. After that, the bed was knocked down, measured and put down onto paper. The manufacturing techniques of these details were developed, necessary appliance and templates for manufacturing were made, and the bed was started into the batch production.
Now creation of the bed as before begins with the sketch of the artist, but in further technique there are considerable changes. With the help of modern programs of three-dimensional projection 3D - sculptors, working together with artists and designers, make an exact virtual model of the bed. All necessary changes are made in the model, bracketry and fixing systems are added. Some modern programs of through projection allow even to calculate the strength of the details and the joints and to develop the technique of manufacturing. Then programmers join to the work. With the help of special programs, they develop programs for processing of carved details and details of complex shape with the numerical control machine. For justice' sake we should say, that the prototype model have to be made even today: it is necessary to test it, to check its ease of assemblage, correctness of programs and techniques.
So, it takes less time for preparation of the article for manufacturing. And what about the time for manufacturing of complex carved details? It takes several hours to carve such bed back with the numerical control machine. More over, it will be more exact and qualitative. So, with new techniques in furniture manufacturing we get a lot of benefits: time and expenditures for preparation of an article and for manufacturing.
You can say that machine processing can never be compared to handwork and the articles made by hands of the skilled expert, who inserted his soul into his article, worth much more. But you can resort to cunning, after processing with the machine tool, the carver should finish the details. He will give the article an original view by making several "slipshod cuts" and traces from the instrument.
The conclusion from all above: with modern computer techniques manufacturers of furniture have developed the process of products creation, having saved its traditional elegant and luxurious look.

Preparation of models for programming consists in agreeing with the customer the most convenient way of manufacturing of the detail and only after that the operations with the model are made.
For example: the customer wants to make a carved detail of the complex shape, for example, the carved bent leg of a dressing table, but he has only the machine tool with three operated co-ordinates.
In this case there are two variants of manufacturing of this leg: 1) to cut it lengthways, cut out halves, and then stick them together or 2) to machine the leg with revolution in two cutter-settings. On the basis of the variant the customer chooses our specialists either cut the detail on necessary amount of parts, or put detail's model into preform's model, connecting them with temporary fixturing "axles" so that preform with the detail could be turned over on the machine tool.
